The Placida Trestle, constructed in 1907, is a wood railway trestle bridge that crosses Gasparilla Sound. It provided transportation across the sound for trains crossing to Boca Grande. The trestle was built by the Charlotte Harbor and Northern Railway (CH&N), which was absorbed by the Seaboard Air Line (SAL) in 1925. The SAL later merged with the Atlantic Coast Line to become the Seaboard Coast Line (SCL) system. The trestle remained in use until the 1970s.
