Intake and Assessment: Conducts intake for all of Human Services, including telephone inquiries on 2-1-1. Assesses individual and household needs for financial and other assistance in times of crisis. Determines eligibility for assistance with electric, water, rent, etc. Provides information and referral for community resources.
Case Management: Provides interventions with eligible individuals and households to promote self-sufficiency and resiliency. Offers services such as: homelessness prevention; juvenile diversion; educational and employment supports; and programs to enhance family stability.
Community Action Agency Advisory Board: Charlotte County Human Services is the designated lead agency for administration of Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funds. The Community Action Agency Advisory Board (CAAAB) brings together representatives of low-income residents to ensure they have a voice in how funding is coordinated and which services are needed to fill identified gaps.
The most recent Community Action Plan describes how key focus areas and measurable goals were selected to guide the work of the agency and the CAAAB. As community needs and priorities change, the plan is updated to make sure resources are invested into what best serves the community and its residents.
Charlotte County CARES Act : CARES Act funding is available for qualified nonprofit organizations seeking to offset costs associated with providing COVID-19-related services or programs.
Center for Disease Control's Eviction Moratorium
On September 4, 2020, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a moratorium on evictions for millions of American renters effective from Sept. 4 to December 30, 2020. To be eligible, you must either earn less than $99,000 a year ($198,000 if you are married and file a joint tax return), have received a stimulus check, or have been exempt from paying income tax in 2019. If you are struggling to pay rent and you meet the above criteria, you will need to sign the CDC's Declaration Form (one signed form for each household member listed on the lease agreement that is 18 years of age or older), and submit to your landlord prior to September 30, 2020. The CDC's eviction moratorium will not protect renters who have not submitted this Declaration Form to their landlord.
