Burnt Store History
The Burnt Store facility was acquired in December 2003. At the time of acquisition, the existing .25 MGD (million gallons per day) plant was being upgraded to treat .5 MGD (peak, three month average daily flow) and to produce public-access reuse quality water. The new plant components were certified complete by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in February 2005. Improvements also were made to enable the simultaneous disposal of reject water as well as excess effluent produced by the plant.

Burnt Store Site
The Burnt Store Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) shares the nearly 75-acre location with the Burnt Store Water Treatment Plant. The area is surrounded by pinelands and palmettos and includes a seven-acre storm retention pond along with wetlands abundant with saw grass and teaming in wildlife and birds.

The Wastewater Treatment Process at Burnt Store
The Burnt Store WRF is designed to operate as an extended aeration, activated sludge treatment facility with a rating of 0.5 MGD annual average daily flow (AADF) permitted capacity. This domestic wastewater treatment plant consists of influent screening, a 100,000-gallon flow equalization tank, two 150,000-gallon aeration tanks, two 86,740-gallon clarifiers, a disk filter of 0.500 MGD capacity, two 8,700-gallon chlorine contact tanks, a 4,291-gallon effluent chamber, a 6,461-gallon reuse sump, a secondary effluent sump, and an aerobic digester.

Deep Well Injection
Deep Injection Well IW-1 is a Class I injection well with a depth of approximately 3,268 feet. The well is permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for a total discharge capacity of 0.564 MGD. This well can pump at a maximum of 392 gpm (gallons per minute) with a maximum injection pressure of 134 psi.

Deep Injection Well IW-2 was completed in October 2008 and began operation in August 2009. It is a Class I injection well with a depth of approximately 3,000 feet. The well is permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for a total discharge capacity of 2.88 MGD. This well can pump at a maximum of 2,000 gpm with a maximum injection pressure of 103 psi.
