Charlotte County Earns Two NACo Achievement Awards

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (May 4, 2017) – Charlotte County earned a pair of National Association of Counties Achievement Awards, the organization announced Friday. The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that enhance services for residents.

The Charlotte County Facilities Maintenance and Construction Department won an award for its capital asset management plan created to address long-term facility maintenance and repairs. The project included a facilities condition assessment that identified required work over a five-year period. An associated software program track aids department staff in the scheduling of maintenance and repairs and enables them to anticipate staffing needs and funding.

The Public Information Office earned an award for its social media policy. As of April 2017, the county maintains 16 Facebook pages, seven Twitter accounts, four Instagram pages and four YouTube channels. The portals expanded the reach of content produced by the county CC-TV government television channel and information posted about county events, policies, meetings and personnel. A video created to jump-start the launch of the county’s main Facebook page featuring a Justin Timberlake song went viral, reaching more than a million Facebook users and generating nearly 400,000 views. That video and a steady stream of video, graphical and print content drove the number of “likes” on the page to 3,178 in a little over a year.

NACo President Bryan Desloge said, “Counties overcome complex challenges, provide essential services and constantly do more with less. We applaud these Achievement Award-winning counties for outstanding efforts to improve residents’ quality of life.”

Charlotte County Administrator Ray Sandrock said, “I’m proud of the national recognition our department staff have received for their innovative and dedicated efforts to serve the public in the most efficient and effective way possible.”
