County Celebrates Finance Professionals Week

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (March 10, 2020) – The Charlotte County Commission proclaimed March 16-20 Government Finance Professionals Week at its March 10 meeting. The proclamation extends appreciation to government finance professionals in Florida and in Charlotte County and acknowledges their hard work, dedication and leadership.

This inaugural Government Finance Professionals Week is sponsored by the Florida Government Finance Officers Association, a professional association founded in 1937 and serving more than 3,300 professionals from state, county and city governments, school districts, colleges and universities, special districts and private firms.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of many professionals who are generally not in the public eye," said Ken Burke, FGFOA president and Pinellas County clerk of the Circuit Court and comptroller. "We offer congratulations to all of the government finance professionals throughout the State of Florida as we celebrate their accomplishments."

The Charlotte County Commission, along with the Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller, Charlotte County Sheriff, State Attorney, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector and the City of Punta Gorda offices employ 97 government finance professionals dedicated to being conscientious stewards of the county's resources and providing timely, accurate and transparent financial reporting to the citizens of the county. The week, sponsored by the FGFOA and all of its member governmental organizations, is a weeklong series of activities aimed at recognizing government finance professionals and the vital services they provide to our state and to our communities.

"Many citizens do not realize the Clerk's Office controls and directs investment of millions of dollars of Charlotte County funds. Our office's finance professionals also handle budget, accounts, and payment distributions, and always work well with the county's Fiscal Services team. These efforts generally go unnoticed by the public. This inaugural Government Finance Professionals Week celebrates and recognizes the important work they do each and every day for our community," said Roger D. Eaton, Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller.
