County Expresses Regret Over Passing of Dick Loftus
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (April 25, 2017) – Charlotte County officials expressed their regrets over the passing April 22 of former County Commissioner Richard “Dick” Loftus. Commission Chairman Bill Truex led a moment of silence for Loftus at the start of Tuesday’s County Commission meeting.
Loftus served on the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners from 2006 to 2010, after serving as chairman of the Charlotte Harbor Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Committee from 1996 to 2006. In 2010, the County Commission adopted a resolution naming a new bridge on Melbourne Street the Dick Loftus Bridge in recognition of his long years working on the CRA board, to which he was appointed in 1992.
“Dick Loftus was dedicated servant to his community and a friend to the County Commission,” Truex said. “His efforts, both on the commission and on the Charlotte Harbor CRA, made a significant impact on the community he loved so much. He will be missed.”
Services will be held at 11 a.m., May 1 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Ave., Port Charlotte, Florida 33952. Funeral arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.
