Edgewater Drive Ribbon-Cutting Commemorates Opening

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (June 23, 2017) – Charlotte County Commissioners, County staff and the Edgewater Drive Phase 2 Project Team commemorated the opening of Edgewater Drive with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Edgewater Drive Phase 2 Improvements expanded two miles of Edgewater Drive from two lanes to a divided four-lane residential boulevard, replaced three bridges and added four roundabouts to improve traffic flow on a critical corridor that provides a hurricane evacuation route from coastal to inland area. During the construction process, Charlotte County Utilities installed new water and sanitary sewer mains, along with an irrigation main. The project also introduced a multi-use path, grass medians and landscaping, and decorative lighting and bridge railings to create a neighborhood roadway.

Edgewater Drive Phase 2 Improvements were funded by the 1-percent local option sales tax referendum approved by Charlotte County voters in 2008 and budgeted at $28.2 million. Visit www.GoEP2.com for additional project information and a link to CC-TV’s “New and Improved Edgewater Drive” video.
