Kick-off the New Year Right
Hands Across the Harbor Half Marathon & 5K
Bridge Run, Ride, and Roll on Jan. 27
(Charlotte County, FL – Jan. 4, 2018) – The Charlotte Harbor and Punta Gorda Community Redevelopment Agencies (CRAs) invite residents and visitors to participate in the 10th Annual Hands Across the Harbor – Half Marathon Bridge Run, Ride, and Roll.
“This event promotes health and community engagement all while enjoying the beauty of Charlotte Harbor at dawn. It is a great way to kick off and set the pace for the New Year,” stated CRA Redevelopment Coordinator, Kay Tracy.
Now in its tenth year, the Saturday, January 27th race welcomes participants across the globe to help further the importance of fitness and environmental awareness in Charlotte County. “The event offers several choices so everyone can participate no matter your fitness level. We want to inspire fellow community members, especially anyone who wants to live a healthier life, to jump start the New Year by participating in the 2018 “Hands Across the Harbor – Half Marathon & 5K Bridge Run, Ride, and Roll,” said Tracy.
The event will feature a half marathon, 5k competitive run, 13.1 mile competitive longboard race, as well as a 5K non-competitive run and fun walk, and 13.1, 20, and 30 mile bicycle ride courses.
The kick-off for half marathon and longboard participants will begin on a (13.1 mile) course from Bayshore Live Oak Park in Charlotte Harbor, cross the Gilchrist Bridge through downtown Punta Gorda to Ponce De Leon Park before returning to Bayshore Live Oak Park.
This IDSA Sanctioned half marathon Longboard Race will follow the same course as the runners. Participants of the Longboard Race must be members of the International Distance Skateboard Association (IDSA) before registering. IDSA membership is available at: www.theidsa.org.
The 5k competitive run or walk, 10, 20 or 30 mile bicycle ride courses will also begin at Bayshore Live Oak Park in Charlotte Harbor, cross the Gilchrist Bridge through downtown Punta Gorda and return to Bayshore Live Oak Park.
Pre-registration ends Jan. 12, 2018 for a reduced registration cost! Same Day Registration will be available. Participants who pre-registered may pick-up their race packets at the “Meet and Greet at Tiki’s” hosted by Four Points by Sheraton Punta Gorda Harborside in Punta Gorda on Friday, Jan. 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.! Additionally, on race day there will also be a free pancake breakfast for participants, awards, door prices and raffles, entertainment and a fabulous grand prize getaway package - a two-night stay in Key West at the lovely Cayo Hueso Resort, via Key West Express!
