Localized Flooding Caused by Heavy Rain
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2017) – Heavy rain from a tropical wave passing through the region has caused localized flooding in several areas of Charlotte County. Additional rain is expected tonight and tomorrow.
Crews from the Public Works and Utilities departments are monitoring flood-prone areas and placing caution signs where street flooding has occurred. As of Saturday afternoon, flooding has impacted Westchester Boulevard between Melissa Court and Loveland Boulevard; Loveland Boulevard between Olean and Suncoast boulevards; Olean Boulevard between Kings Highway and Loveland Boulevard; Olean Boulevard at Staver Street; and Orlando Boulevard between Amigo and Minerva avenues.
Stormwater inundation has caused blowouts at sewer manholes in several areas. Utilities crews are pumping and clearing blocked lines where warranted.
Motorists should remain alert at all times and exercise caution when traveling on roads impacted by stormwater. Do not drive around caution signs or through flooded areas.
