Prairie Creek Preserve is Temporarily Closed due to Washout

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Aug. 28, 2017) – Prairie Creek Preserve and the access road to the preserve is closed due to heavy storm water damage sustained over the weekend. A portion of the road has washed out and is currently underwater. Repairs will be made after the water has subsided.

The heavy rains and standing water have created hazardous conditions throughout the county. The public should exercise caution traveling as well as visiting any environmental parks and preserves. Areas with standing water should be avoided whenever possible. At this time wildlife will be moving to areas of higher elevation. If you see wildlife avoid contact and don’t approach. Leave animals plenty of space to navigate around you. Avoid forested areas. High winds and heavy rains can result in limb and/or tree fall.

For information, contact Jason Thompson, senior environmental specialist at 941-833-3816 or Jason.Thompson@CharlotteCountyFL.gov
