Punta Gorda Charlotte Library Groundbreaking May 15

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (April 12, 2018) – The Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners has scheduled a ceremonial groundbreaking at 8:30 a.m., May 15 to commemorate the start of construction of the Punta Gorda Charlotte Library, 401 Shreve St. in Punta Gorda.

The $7.8 million library is funded by proceeds from the 1-percent local option sales tax approved by voters in November 2014. Construction on the 20,100-square-foot facility began April 9 on land donated to the county by the Punta Gorda City Council. The library is being built by Willis A. Smith Construction. Engineering and design was performed by Harvard Jolly Architecture.

The library will include meeting rooms, a Friends of the Library area, youth and program space, a computer area with instructional classes and approximately 1,000 square feet for archive functions. The construction is scheduled to be completed in July 2019. For progress reports, visit www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov and click Project Status Updates.
