The Girl in the Box: The Barbara Mackle Kidnapping

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Jan. 2, 2018) The Mid-County Regional Library and the Charlotte County Historical Center present The Girl in the Box: The Barbara Mackle Kidnapping on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mid-County Regional Library. Barbara Mackle, the daughter of Florida land developer Robert Mackle (who helped build the cities of Port Charlotte and North Port), was kidnapped and held captive inside a box for 83 hours in 1968. Mackle was eventually rescued and her kidnapper was apprehended by a Charlotte County Sheriff on Hog Island. This remarkable story, which spawned two television movies, is a presentation told through a series of dramatic monologues with various individuals portraying key figures in this famous kidnapping.

Mid-County Regional Library is located at 2050 Forrest Nelson Boulevard, Port Charlotte. The program is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information contact Bill MacDonald at 941-613-3192 or Bill.MacDonald@CharlotteCountyFL.gov.
