The Punta Gorda Public Library Friday Night Music & Performance Series


CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2018) – The Punta Gorda Library presents a series of quality music concerts and dramatic performances on Friday nights at the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association, 2001 Shreve Street, Punta Gorda. Sponsored by the Friends of the Punta Gorda Library, all performances begin at 6:00 p.m. and are free.

Friday, Feb. 16 - A Tribute to Les Paul and Mary Ford by Tom and Sandy Doyle.
Les Paul, guitar wizard and musical innovator, influenced guitarists in all musical genres. Along with his wife, Mary Ford, the musical couple sold millions of records. Tom Doyle, Paul’s guitar fixer, soundman and protégé, continues the legacy. Doyle and his wife Sandy recreate Les and Mary’s songs and sounds with dazzling guitar licks and sonorous vocals.

Friday, Feb. 23 - Classical viola and accompaniment by David Pedraza and Guest
A master degree in music performance holder from the Lynn Conservatory, David Pedraza won first prize with the Vitali String Quartet at the 2004 MTNA Virginia Music Competition. He has performed at the White House, the Kennedy Center and the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C. With a passion for the composers he selects, Pedraza makes each performed piece memorable and melodic.

Friday, March 2 - Acting Up - A One-Woman show written and performed by Joanna Olsen
Time Magazine said those of us born from the thirties to the early forties were cautious and unimaginative; and named those individuals The Silent Generation. Boy, did they get that wrong. Intertwined throughout this play are vignettes highlighting women who are mothers, rebels and busybodies; and anything but SILENT!

Friday, March 9 -Lillian Hellman: An Unfinished Woman written and performed by Jenny Aldrich.
In an illustrious career spanning five decades, she won a permanent place in American Letters. In this dramatic portrait, Hellman discusses her work, her life, her adventures, her politics and numerous love affairs, including the 30 years she spent with mystery writer Dashiell Hammett.
