Notice of Detour and Road Closure of Alton Rd. Starting April 17

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (April 12, 2017) – Please be advised that a short section of Alton Road traffic will be detoured effective Monday, April 17 until mid-summer in the vicinity of the Port Charlotte Middle School between Foote Ave. and Midway Blvd.

Bus traffic will be allowed to continue to use the bus loop via the detour route. The sidewalk in front of the Middle School will be closed and all pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south sidewalk with crossings at Hayworth Rd. and Orlando Blvd.

Students will be guided along the southerly sidewalk with the assistance of Charlotte County deputies from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Pedestrians during all other times will be detoured around adjacent sidewalks in accordance with the posted signage along the detour route.

Travelers are encouraged to choose an alternate route when possible. Mail delivery, emergency services, and access to local residences will be maintained during construction.

This work is in conjunction with the Midway Phase II Widening Project.

Upon completion, Midway Boulevard will be a four lane roadway with center turn lanes, new sidewalks and a closed drainage system. Construction is projected to be complete in the fall of 2018.

More information about this project is available at www.MidwayUpdate.com.

On behalf of everyone, please drive safely.
