Wastewater Release Report
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Aug. 11, 2017) – Charlotte County Utilities Department responded to a leak of partially treated wastewater at 8196 Burwell Circle in South Gulf Cove yesterday evening. Upon investigation, staff discovered a valve on the vacant lot had been broken by mowing equipment.
The Utilities Department quickly dispatched staff and recovered 4,000 of 4,800 gallons of partially treated wastewater with a tanker truck. The affected area was sanitized with hydrated lime. Less than 50 gallons entered Viscount waterway via a culvert between 8252 and 8244 Burwell Circle.
In keeping with State law, staff reported it to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Watch Office. In order to protect public health, safety and welfare in surrounding areas, water sample collections began this morning at the site. Lab samples will be analyzed and reported to the FDEP and made available to the public.
