Wastewater Release Report

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 1, 2017) –Charlotte County Utilities staff responded to a force main line break at 1515 Forrest Nelson Blvd. Friday morning. Staff repaired the line and recovered 7,000 gallons of an estimated 8,000-gallon sewage leak. Engineers determined saturated soil and high water pressure in the line caused by recent heavy rains were contributing factors to the failure.

The spill was contained on site. Ground was cleaned and disinfected with lime. No waterways were affected.

Staff reported the incident to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Watch Office. Citizens are encouraged to report sewer-related emergencies to 941-764-4300. For more information, contact Bruce Schellinger, wastewater collection superintendent, at 941-764-4563.
