Wastewater Release Report

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2017) – A sewer line was damaged Friday morning from the vehicular weight of a large truck delivering sand to a new-home construction site, resulting in the release of partially treated wastewater at 17154 Marydale Rd. in Port Charlotte.

Utilities staff quickly responded and recovered approximately 2,500 gallons of the 3,000 gallons that was released. The affected area was sanitized with hydrated lime, however, some of the partially-treated wastewater reached the Canary Waterway. A series of water sample collections have been taken and are being analyzed by a certified lab.

In keeping with State law, staff reported it to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Citizens are encouraged to report sewer-related emergencies to 941-764-4300. For more information, contact Bruce Schellinger, Wastewater Collection Superintendent, at 941-764-4563.
