Wastewater Release Reports
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (June 19, 2017) – Charlotte County Utilities responded to a manhole overflow in Deep Creek Sunday evening because the infrastructure was saturated by recent heavy rainstorms.
Approximately 1,500 gallons of mixed wastewater and rainwater overflowed from a manhole at 26027 Deep Creek Blvd. in Punta Gorda. The Utilities Department quickly dispatched staff and a tanker truck to stop the overflow and pump excess wastewater to Charlotte County’s Eastport Facility for treatment and reuse. Today the affected area was sanitized with hydrated lime.
Utilities staff also responded to a sewer service line leak of approximately 500 gallons of partially treated wastewater across from 140 Redwood Rd. in Rotonda earlier today. Utilities crews quickly responded to stop the leak and recovered approximately 450 gallons. It was apparently caused by a vehicle accidentally driving over a valve box along the line. No waterways were affected, and the area was sanitized with hydrated lime.
In keeping with State law, staff reported these incidents to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Watch Office.
