Wastewater Release Reports

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2017) – A force main line break this morning resulted in a leak of approximately 15,000 gallons of wastewater at 2400 Harbor Blvd. Staff quickly repaired the line and is taking additional precautions to reduce rainfall infiltration into the sewer system.

The overflow reached nearby storm drains so staff directed water samples be taken around the Elkcam Waterway. Samples are being taken at the estimated point of entry, as well as upstream and downstream, and will be analyzed by a certified lab in accordance with state regulations.

In keeping with state law, staff reported these incidents to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Watch Office. Utilities staff continues to respond and prepare for additional rain and weather events.

Citizens are encouraged to report sewer-related emergencies to 941-764-4300. For more information, contact Bruce Schellinger, Wastewater Collection Superintendent, at 941-764-4563.
