CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (March 10, 2023) – The Community Development Department lobby will close each business day at 3 p.m., beginning on March 27, 2023. This applies to both public access and incoming phone calls. Community Development will stop accepting customer walk-ins at 2:30 p.m. The changes are being implemented to allow staff more time to process and review applications submitted that day.
Prior to Hurricane Ian, staff processed an average of 3,700 permit applications a month. Since then, the in-person customer level has increased almost 200%, even with more than 90% of permits being submitted electronically.
These changes will remain in effect until either permit applications decrease or additional staff is hired and trained. Electronic permit applications will continue to be accepted with no restrictions.
