During the December 2013 meeting of the Florida Building Commission, a request for declaratory statement was made relating to the requirement that air conditioning contractors provide the local jurisdiction with sizing calculations and duct seal certifications for replacement air conditioning units on residential structures.
The Florida Building Commission determined that the responsibility for the correct sizing of the unit and the sealing of the duct work in line with applicable state and federal codes falls with the contractor and it is not the responsibility of the local jurisdiction to verify that these items during either plans review or inspection.
Therefore, effective immediately, unincorporated Charlotte County shall no longer require energy calculations to be provided at time of application or duct sealing certifications to be provided at time of inspection for change outs or replacements.
The permit applications, both online and paper-based, will be altered to reflect this change on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014
