Natural Resources staff helps to protect both state and federally listed species such as the Florida scrub-jay, various wading bird species, sea turtles, eastern indigo snakes and gopher tortoises by:
acquiring conservation lands
managing natural habitats
monitoring the status and populations of different species
coordinating with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
ensuring state and federal permitting requirements are met
developing conservation plans for listed species, such as the Charlotte County Scrub-Jay Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP)
