Project Description
Hurricane Ian caused extensive shoreline erosion at Manasota Key, Don Pedro, and Stump Pass, displacing hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of sand. At Manasota Key, an estimated 137,477 cubic yards of sand were displaced, with 93,588 cubic yards lost on the south beach fill. Stump Pass experienced displacement of 46,931 cubic yards on updrift beach fill and 20,264 cubic yards on the north beach fill. The engineered dune system and seawalls were extensively damaged, leaving improved properties vulnerable to storm impacts. Additional damages included washed-out beach fill exposing mangrove roots, erosion of Rip Rap, and undermining of pavilions. Sidewalks, pavilions, boat ramps, and canoe/kayak docks sustained damage or require full replacement.
