Project Description
Hurricane Ian caused significant damage throughout the wastewater treatment plant. Several key buildings, including the chemical feed and storage areas, OPS building, blower and electrical building, generator and switchgear buildings, MCC building, and administration building, sustained roof, soffit, fascia, and interior water damage. Equipment, motors, and other contents were also affected.
The chlorine contact tanks, clarifiers, digester, and filter structures experienced roof and awning damage, bent guardrails, and broken lighting fixtures. Electrical systems were compromised, with damaged conduits, motors, and non-functional samplers. Lighting across the site was destroyed, with poles blown over or uprooted. Fencing and gates were damaged or inoperable, and erosion and debris impacted several areas.
Carports, maintenance sheds, and auxiliary structures sustained roof failures, wall and truss damage, and other structural instability. Temporary mitigation included emergency roofing, water extraction, drying of interiors, and stabilization of equipment and electrical systems to prevent further deterioration.
