Special Needs Saferoom

Project Description

Design of a new multi-purpose Special Needs Saferoom and Community Support Facility.  The building will serve as a primary special needs shelter during emergencies, providing a safe, medically-supported environment for vulnerable residents during hurricanes and other critical events.  Outside of emergency activation, the facility will support community uses such as meetings, training, storage, and Continuity of Operations (COOP) functions, ensuring the building is valuable year-round.  When complete, this facility will significantly expand the county’s ability to care for residents with medical needs during disasters while also serving as a flexible resource for training, preparedness, and public health support throughout the year.

Project Location

County-owned parcel at intersection of Veteran's Blvd. and Hillsborough Blvd.
