Stump Pass Maintenance Dredge

Project Description

The Charlotte County Erosion control Project includes providing erosion control and shoreline stabilization measures including beach nourishment, maintenance dredge bypassing, and stabilizing structures for approximately 5,000 linear feet of eroding gulf and inlet shorelines immediately adjacent to Stump Pass.  The sand removed by the Maintenance Dreding of Stump Pass will be used to nourish the beaches north and south of the pass.  The project limits for this activity will extend from Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Reference Monument (R-Monument) R-18 south to R-21 on Manasota Key in the Stump Pass Beach State Park.  The Project continues on Palm Island extending from approximately 1,200 feet northeast of R-22 along Stump Pass’ southern inlet shoreline and then along the gulf-front shoreline to approximately R-24.

Latest Updates

Pre-Construction Meeting held October 11, 2021. 

Pumping on State Park began at 11:30 on December 20, 2021. Areas of active construction will closed to the public.  To date the contractor has placed over 100,000 cubic yards on the State Park.  The contractor has completed the sand placement and tilling on the State Park. They have mobilized to Don Pedro/Knight Island and resumed sand placement on March 4th.  They have completed the dredging of Stump Pass and are currently demobilizing their equipment from the area.  They anticipate all equipment removal, restoration of mob areas, and beach tilling to be complete by June 22. 

Tentative Schedule for Project: 

Mobilization: November 29- December 15 Complete

Dredge/Sand Placement on Stump Pass State Park: December 20 - March 1 Complete

Mobilize to Palm Island: March 1-3 Complete

Dredge/Sand Placement on Palm Island: March 4 - June 10 Complete

Demobilization: June 10- June 22
