The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) is mandated by state statute and enforced within Charlotte County by Resolution 2008-070. Charlotte County Human Services Neighborhood Services serves as liaison.
AHAC Roles and Responsibilities
The task of the Committee is to make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on county policies affecting the cost of housing. The Committee assists in the development of the county’s Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) every three years, and/or as needed, as policies, priorities, and strategies change over time. Meeting Schedule
The AHAC meets on the 4th Wednesday in February*, April, June, and August, and the 3rd Wednesday in October and December at 10 a.m. at the Family Services Center, 21500 Gibralter Dr., Port Charlotte, unless otherwise noted on agenda. For more information, call 941.833.6500.

Charlotte HOME
Adopted in 2020, Charlotte HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Easier) reduces barriers for developers of affordable housing through incentives such as:
- Expedited permitting
- Impact fee waiver on affordable units
- Utility and other public fee subsidies
- Land donation

Applications are reviewed by a multi-agency panel. Certain tiers require approval by the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) and the Board of County Commissioners (BCC).
