Above-Ground/On-Ground Vinyl Liner Pools

Above-ground/On-ground Vinyl Liner Pools shall comply with ANSI/NSPI-4; (FBC, R4101.2, Definitions. PRIVATE SWIMMING POOL, any structure, located in a residential area, that is intended for swimming or recreational bathing and contains water over 24 inches deep including but not limited to in-ground, above-ground, and on-ground swimming pools, hot tubs, and non-portable spas); and shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions, a copy of which shall be provided in-field for inspection.

Electrical wiring and equipment shall comply with Chapter 27 of the Florida Building Code. An approved (GFCI) electrical receptacle shall be provided no closer then ten feet (10’) from the pool wall. The manufacturers listed equipment shall connect directly to the approved receptacle with out the use of an extension cord.

Pool shall not be located or sited in violation of the required separation distance to overhead service conductors and or under-ground wiring (minimum 22.5’ to edge of water for residential overhead service conductors per Table 680.8 and underground wiring shall not be located under pool and requires a minimum 5’ horizontal distance to wall of pool; see Chapter 27 for additional requirements).

Outdoor swimming pools shall be provided with a barrier complying with FBC, R4101.17.1.1 through R4101.17.1.14. Where an aboveground pool structure is used as a barrier (i.e. pool wall height is a minimum of 4’ above ground) or where the barrier is mounted on top of the pool structure, and the means of access is a ladder or steps, the ladder or steps either shall be capable of being secured, locked or removed to prevent access, or the ladder or steps shall be surrounded by a barrier which meets the requirements of Sections R4101.17.1.1 through R4101.17.1.9 and Sections R4101.17.1.12 through R4101.17.1.14. When the ladder or steps are secured, locked or removed, any opening created shall not allow the passage of a 4-inch-diameter sphere.

Components such as the pump & filtration system shall not be located so as to provide a means of access to the pool and toys, chairs, tables, decks or similar objects that a young child could climb shall be at least four feet (4’) from the pool.
