Local Certificates of Competency - Special Licenses

Posted Date: September 23, 2022
To:                 Construction Industry
From:            Community Development Department
Subject:         Charlotte County Local Certificates of Competency - Specialty Licenses

Due to the passing of Florida House Bill 735, all Charlotte County certificates of competency for local specialty contractor licenses will sunset on July 1, 2023, except for those listed below.

The Aluminum, Building Demolition, Doors, Window and Garage Door, Drywall, Glass and Glazing, Lawn Irrigation and Marine certificates of competency are eligible to remain as registered licenses, as will all current registered licenses, since they substantially match a state certified license. Please contact the Building Division 941.743.1201 for further directions on how to convert these seven licenses to a registered local license.

If the scope of your local certificate of competency specialty license requires a building permit, you will be required to have a state certified or registered license to continue working in the respective fields after the sunset period unless you work directly for someone who has those licenses. Please refer to the Community Development Licensing webpage to view the Charlotte County License Conversion Spreadsheet, HB 735 Bill, and 61G4-15 Certification and Registration Information.

You can also contact the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board at 850.487.1395 to determine what actions you may need to take before the transition on July 1, 2023.
