The Charlotte County Utilities Department educates the community about water and how everyday choices impact them.
What We Provide
- School engagement: We partner with elementary, middle and high schools to provide classroom presentations, STEAM activities and facility tours that connect science lessons to real-world utility operations.
- Internship opportunities: High school students can explore potential career paths through our summer internship program, gaining hands-on experience in water, wastewater, engineering and maintenance.
- Community events: We participate in open houses, career fairs and other community programs to share information, answer questions and highlight the services we provide.
- Facility tours: Guided tours of utility facilities are available at select times throughout the year for residents, students and community groups.
- Educational resources: Materials on topics such as water conservation, FOG (fats, oils and grease) prevention and responsible flushing are available.
Why Outreach Matters
Our community outreach helps to:
- Increase public understanding of how water and wastewater systems protect health and the environment.
- Encourage responsible practices that reduce blockages, sewer spills and service disruptions.
- Inspire the next generation of water professionals.
- Strengthen trust and transparency between the Utilities Department and the public.
