(Feb. 2, 2026) - “Built to Last: What Winning Restaurants Do Differently,” an in-person program featuring restaurant industry leader Ed Rensi, will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2026, at the Military Heritage Museum in Punta Gorda. Presented by SCORE Port Charlotte and hosted in partnership with the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce and the Charlotte County Economic Development Office, the program will examine leadership, operational discipline and long-term decision-making in the restaurant industry. The event is sponsored by Cheney Brothers.

Cold Weather Shelter Open Through Monday; Residents Urged to Take Precautions

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay is forecasting a significant cold front that will bring some of the coldest temperatures experienced in Southwest Florida in the past 15 years. Due to continued cold temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, the Charlotte CARE Center (formerly the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition) will be open as a cold weather shelter on Saturday, Jan. 31; Sunday, Feb. 1; and Monday, Feb. 2.

The shelter is located at 1476 Kenesaw St., Port Charlotte. Monday night has been added due to the extended cold weather forecast. Individuals seeking shelter should pre-register by calling 941-627-4313 and arrive by 8 p.m.
