Curb-to-Curb Transportation Service

Does Charlotte County provide any public transportation options?
​Yes, instead of a fixed-route bus service, Charlotte County Transit offers a curb-to-curb bus service to the general public for a small fee.

Can I get a ride on the same day?
Yes, based on availability. It is highly recommended to make reservations 96 hours in advance due to limited seating.

Do you connect with SCAT or Sarasota County?
No, currently the closest location is for medical purposes only at The North Port Family Health Center on 6950 Outreach Way in North Port.

Do you connect to Lee County?
​No, currently our closest connection to Lee County is Horner's Auto located at 12544 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda. This location is approximately 16 miles from any Lee County connections.

How do I cancel my trip?
To cancel any reservation, please call the reservation line, 941.575.4000, Option #2 and speak with dispatch to cancel. You must call at least one hour prior to any scheduled trip to cancel. Any calls within the hour prior to pick up or no call at all, will be considered a no-show. Three no-shows in a 30-day period will result in a suspension from services for a period of 30 days.

Can Charlotte County Transit take people to work on a regular schedule?
​Charlotte County Transit allows what is called a standing order for customers that work a regular schedule or customers travel to the same location on a regular basis. The customer’s only responsibility after making a standing order is to call to cancel trips that are no longer needed as soon as possible. This will not interrupt a standing order.

What is the time span that drivers will wait for the customer to get on the bus?
Charlotte County Transit will wait for 3 minutes upon arrival at any location, allowing time for the customer to board/acknowledge the bus’s arrival. Allowances, within reason, will be made for customers with disabilities. However, depending on the driver’s schedule and circumstance, any customer holding the bus for longer than 3 minutes, may be considered a no-show if the bus must move on to stay on-time.

What other options are there for transportation for veterans and non-veterans?
A veterans van service runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and is driven by veterans. This van runs to the Cape Coral and St. Petersburg veterans’ facilities, meeting at the Cultural Center at 7:30 a.m. each morning and leaving the center by 8:00 a.m. To make a reservation for this service, please call 941.833.6245. For all local veterans’ services, please contact Charlotte County Transit directly to make your appointments. Other Coordinated Partners provide free transportation.

Transportation Disadvantaged Program

Are there any transportation options offered for low income families or senior citizens?
​Yes, Charlotte County Transit has a program for the transportation disadvantaged program. Depending on available resources, an individual may be eligible for reduced-rate rides if he/she is: physically or otherwise disabled, 60 years of age or older, or qualified as Low Income. Transportation Disadvantaged applications can be downloaded from our website or request a copy to be mailed to you through the reservation line at 941.575.4000.

What insurance do they accept? If not, do they know of any transportation that takes Medicaid/Medicare?
​Charlotte County Transit is public transportation and therefore, does not accept insurance payment. If you have a qualifying Medicaid program, please contact your HMO directly for Medicaid medical trips. If you are on Medicare, please contact Charlotte County Transit, request a Transportation Disadvantaged application and see if you qualify for reduced fares.
