COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT – DISASTER RECOVERY (CDBG-DR)
Public Comment Period Open Through March 13, 2026
Charlotte County is providing public notice of its intent to apply for funding under the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program administered by FloridaCommerce. This funding opportunity supports long-term recovery and mitigation through matching funds for eligible Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) projects related to the 2023 and 2024 storm events. HMGP provides seventy five percent of each project’s eligible cost, leaving a twenty five percent local share, for which Charlotte County is seeking CDBG-DR funding if awarded by the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Charlotte County welcomes public comment on the proposed project during the designated comment period to ensure transparency and community input in the development of this application.
Charlotte County anticipates requesting a total of $54,323.40 in CDBG-DR funding to provide the required local match for one HMGP project to install permanent generators at four lift stations that support designated County emergency shelters. Of this amount, $9,053.90 is allocated for project administration and the remaining $45,269.50 is for construction activities. The generators will ensure continuous wastewater service during power outages, maintain sanitary conditions for shelter operations, and prevent sewer overflows that could impact public health and the environment during storm events. The final funding amount will depend on HMGP award approval and may be adjusted accordingly.
