A Public Works presence in North & Mid-County is critical for their operation. The old JB Yard on Kenilworth Blvd has been demoed for the new Charlotte Transit Facility. The County has purchased new property located at 18181 Sinatra Ave in Port Charlotte for the Public Works Yard.

Hurricane Ian caused severe shoreline erosion at Manasota Key, Don Pedro, and Stump Pass, displacing hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of sand. The dune system and seawalls were heavily damaged, exposing properties to storm risks. Additional damage affected beach fill, mangrove roots, riprap, pavilions, sidewalks, boat ramps, and docks, many of which need repair or replacement.

The Cultural Center Replacement project was approved to move forward with masterplanning and programming by the Board of County Commissioners on March 12th 2024 following a series of public input activities and final presentation. The board granted $750,000 to proceed with advertising for a consultant. Additionally the direction was given to move forward with demolition of the existing facility scheduled for FY26.
